CHARACTERISTICS OF QUALITATIVE RESEARCH

 Among the most important characteristics of qualitative research are:

  • LOGICAL APPROACH: The purpose of this type of research is to understand experiences and meanings, so it does not follow an established theory but develops concepts and new theories through observation and is based on the data gotten. 

  • INTERPRETATIVE PERSPECTIVE: The main objective is to study some individuals and to understand how participants comprehend and interpret a phenomenon, without any variable can be manipulated by researchers.

  • METHODOLOGICAL FLEXIBILITY: In qualitative research, the methodological design is completely open, which means that even the questions or the hypothesis can be modified or appear during the study.

  • NON-NUMERICAL DATA: The data collected are obtained from open interviews, observation, analysis of some documents or life stories, so it cannot be represented in graphs. 

  • SMALL SAMPLES: This type of research focuses on specific cases with interesting and detailed information instead of measuring it statistically. 

  • SHARED SUBJECTIVITY: The researcher recognizes that it is an important element within the investigation because of the importance of their own perspective that generates empathy and also their participation in analyzing the data.
